Volunteering
The MetroHealth System has been serving the medical needs of the Cleveland community for 170 years. Today, MetroHealth is one of the largest, most comprehensive health care providers in Northeast Ohio. Volunteers are an important part of The MetroHealth System. We invite you to become part of the MetroHealth volunteer team.
How do I become a MetroHealth volunteer? To become a volunteer, please complete the volunteer application .
After completing the application, please call Volunteer Services at 216-778-4471 to set up an interview. During your interview you will meet with a member of the Volunteer Services staff to discuss your interests, skills and availability to serve. You will also learn about current needs for volunteer services at MetroHealth locations where you may wish to help.
A background check is conducted, and personal references are checked.
What kind of training is required? Once you have been offered a position, you will be scheduled to attend an orientation to help you to know more about MetroHealth. You will also receive training for your specific volunteer role.
Are any health tests required? All volunteers must have a tuberculin (TB) screening every year. TB tests are provided at no cost to volunteers. Certain assignments require other screenings that are provided free of charge.
What do volunteers do at MetroHealth? Volunteers help in a wide variety of ways at MetroHealth facilities throughout Greater Cleveland. Please view our list of Volunteer Opportunities for some current needs and options. Or, if you have a special talent, the Volunteer Services staff can talk with you about how it might benefit the hospital.
How much time is required of volunteers? Most volunteer positions require a minimum commitment of three hours per week for three to six months. Some opportunities are available for less frequent participation, and short-term activities for groups can be arranged.
How do I get to MetroHealth? MetroHealth Medical Center is accessible via many of the major Cleveland highways. Please view our driving directions to determine the best route for you. The Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Center for Skilled Nursing Care is located just south of the medical center (see bottom of campus map).
