The need for trained physicians in hospice and palliative medicine continues to rise as the population of the United States faces the challenge of providing care for a rapidly growing population of patients and their families facing chronic serious and life-limiting illnesses.

To meet this challenge, MetroHealth's one-year, ACGME-accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program prepares physicians with experience in:

• Outpatient palliative care clinic
• Inpatient hospice care
• Acute hospital palliative care consultation
• Training in the interdisciplinary team model
• Long-term care/geriatrics
• Physician house calls
• Community-based hospice care
• Acute symptom management
• Pediatric hospice and palliative medicine consultation

The fellowship is open to applicants trained in internal medicine, family practice, anesthesia, obstetrics and gynecology, or emergency medicine. Two fellowship positions are available per year.

The program exists in conjunction with the Residency Training Program in Internal Medicine and is a collaborative effort of MetroHealth, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
