Family Medicine
Introduction
The Family Medicine team at a Fall 2011 retreat.
Diversity, excitement, and challenge characterize the Department of Family Medicine at MetroHealth. The mission of the Family Medicine Department is to provide excellence in the education of family physicians as well as high-quality, community-oriented, family-centered health care to all people.
The Department of Family Medicine is based out of MetroHealth Medical Center, The MetroHealth System's main campus, and also has a presence throughout greater Cleveland through MetroHealth ambulatory clinics.
The Family Medicine Residency Program was established in 1976 and most recently received a four-year accreditation in May 2009. Residency training takes place at the main campus and at MetroHealth Broadway Health Center. We have a total contingent of 18 resident physicians with diverse backgrounds mirroring the diversity of our patient population.
The department's faculty represent leaders in geriatrics, obstetrics, medical quality improvement, and patient education. A multidisciplinary team approach to patient care is at the heart of our philosophy of residency training. The Family Medicine Department strives to create an atmosphere where learning takes place in a supportive and collegial environment.
Our residents leave with the confidence that they have the clinical skills to manage a wide array of health concerns and disease, strong skills in the application of evidence-based medicine, and a deep understanding and appreciation of the family and community systems that shape their patients' lives.
