The Nurse Intern Program targets nursing students who have completed their junior year and are looking for a clinical opportunity to apply some of their critical thinking and skills. The MetroHealth Medical Center offers nurse intern positions in all nursing areas. Some of the unique offerings for nurse interns include the following:

• Three days of classroom orientation are provided which include a psychomotor skills lab. This is followed by unit-specific orientation guided by a registered nurse.
• ·Assigned registered nurse to act as mentor during this time.
• ·Free on-site educational opportunities provided by our clinical nurse specialists and other health care providers.
• ·Flexible scheduling so position can be maintained, if desired, throughout the school year or just for summer alone.

Some of the job roles/responsibilities of the nurse intern include the following:

• ·Assisting patients with personal hygiene and ambulation needs
• ·Performing and recording treatments such as sterile dressings, catheterizations, and performing phlebotomy.
• ·Communicating any patient concerns / changes in patient status directly to RN
• ·Assisting units to move forward with customer service initiatives and cost saving initiatives.
