Advanced Practice Nursing

Advanced practice nurses (APNs) practice in all areas of The MetroHealth System. APNs are registered nurses (RNs) with highly developed skills and knowledge acquired from advanced education and experience in a particular area of health care.
Because these nurses meet strict criteria established by the State of Ohio, they are licensed to practice in collaboration with physicians in those same specialties to meet the extensive needs of their specified population. APNs are fully qualified health care providers.
Patients who are seen by APNs report an extremely high level of satisfaction with the care they receive. APNs are involved in direct patient care, research, education and legislative activities to promote quality health care for all citizens.
The four types of APNs practicing at MetroHealth are certified nurse midwives, certified nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and clinical nurse specialists.
