Department of Radiology
Radiology services for The MetroHealth System are provided in multiple locations by the Department of Radiology. Our staff includes more than 220 employees with twenty-two radiologists and two PhD faculty. The Department performs more than 220,000 procedures annually. The department is one of the largest in the nation in terms of workload, range of procedures and services offered, and the size of the installed equipment base (replacement cost in excess of $25 million). The MetroHealth System has the only Level I trauma center facility in the Cleveland area, and the entire spectrum of modern radiological procedures are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Consult with a Radiologist
Consultation with any Radiology staff physician can be arranged through the Secretarial Support office by calling 216-778-4013 or 216-778-4026. If the consultation pertains to a test previously performed, the secretary will ask for the patient's name, medical record number, date of examination and examination type. The radiologist will return the call when the films have been pulled.

Procedure for Release of Radiology Records
An authorization for release of medical information signed by the patient or his/her guardian is required for the reports and/or films to be released. In the case of an emergency where the patient is not able to sign a release, the physician may sign the release, noting that the patient is unable to sign it. Authorization is not required to release the report to the physician who ordered the exam. However, it is required to release the films.
Authorizations may be mailed, faxed (216-778-2756), or the patient may be sent to the film library to sign the release.
Upon receipt of a signed authorization, requests for faxed reports will be faxed the same day the request is received. Films and/or reports will be mailed by first class mail to the physician or institution (allow seven days for delivery), or films and/or reports can be picked up from the Film Library, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M - 4:30 P.M., in which case the requestor must call 216-778-4074 at least four hours in advance to assure that records are ready. Please include the name, address and the facility of the physician requesting the images.
