18-month PM&R Resident Didactic Cycle

General Guidelines: (18-month cycle starting January 2011 through December 2012)
A three-hour slot for major didactics, Thursday 9 a.m.–noon. Speakers should aim for 45 minutes of content per session to allow time for questions and a five to 10 minute break between sessions.

  • More informal/interactive sessions during a noon hour will usually be on Mondays or Tuesdays
  • Grand Rounds — Two per month held on Mondays at noon in room R170
  • M&M conference — One per month
  • Journal Club — One per month (article topic related to module)
  • EMG/MSK case review — One per month
  • Chair/Psychology Professor Rounds — One per month
  • One topic presentation for PG-2 and PG-3 per year — A basic topic incorporating a high degree of anatomy/physiology is desirable. Topic presentations may be noon hour or Thursday morning.  Resident to confer with the director of didactic module (for the assigned month) to finalize topic and for guidance
  • One PM&R Grand Rounds presentation for each PG-4 (can be on research project or other topic of interest)
  • SAE review, or other testing, one hour per topic area is an option at the end of  each didactic series

Added Sessions Based on Residents' Request:

  • FES module
  • Neurologic rehabilitation
  • Gaits analysis
  • AANEM SAE review
  • EMG Workshop
  • Acupuncture/Osteopathic modalities
  • Open agenda/Chair's Chat with the Program Director — Chaired by the chief resident. Held quarterly off-site
  • Billing and Coding — Held once every two months on the last Thursday of the month at 12:15 p.m.
  • End of module exams — Thursday at noon. Held by director of didactic module
  • Didactic evaluations — Must be completed by the residents (and other attendees) at the end of each lecture
  • 12-month anatomy cycle consisting of a one-hour interactive anatomy session scheduled twice a month on Thursdays at noon
