OBJECTIVE: A rotation designed to provide medical teaching in the basic physics of nuclear medicine, basic nuclear pharmacy and interpretation and performance of various types of nuclear medicine examinations.

OFFERED: September - November & January - June

The elective begins on the 1st weekday of the month and will end on the last weekday of the month.

STUDENTS: Offered to 3rd and 4th Year Medical Students. Maximum of 2 students per month

DESCRIPTION: This rotation includes learning of the basic physics of nuclear medicine, basic nuclear pharmacy, the choice of imaging and techniques for various types of examination and interpretation of the various types of nuclear medicine examinations. The students will observe the work in the nuclear medicine laboratory and in the nuclear medicine imaging area. Students will participate in all read-out sessions. The students will be expected to read books and materials suggested for this rotation.

REQUIREMENTS: Weekday attendance, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Attendance at daily radiology conferences and resident lectures, and the student will prepare two teaching file cases to be presented to staff at the conclusion of the elective.
