The Department of Pathology is a full service and teaching department totally integrated into the structure and workings of MetroHealth Medical Center. All active physicians in the pathology department have appointments to the faculty of pathology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

The department provides all anatomic, cytological and cytogenetics services to the hospital. The clinical laboratories provide services in hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, blood banking and laboratory immunology. The department offers a laboratory computer with peripherals in all laboratories and nursing stations is provided. The department also maintains a working library of selected current pathology journals and textbooks. The elective program for medical students provides instruction in autopsy correlation, fine needle cytology evaluation, perinatal pathology and introduction to the effective use of the clinical laboratory.
