The Case Western Reserve/MetroHealth Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency is an integrated well- balanced residency which offers training at MetroHealth Medical Center and The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. A complement of twenty residents is divided equally into four years of training. Residents are provided with opportunities to develop a broad spectrum of clinical and surgical skills. Our graduates are prepared for either a clinical or academic career.

A regional leader in obstetrics, the MetroHealth Medical Center welcomes approximately 3500 infants a year. Women with problem pregnancies or whose pregnancies are complicated by other health conditions, are seen by Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialists in the hospital's high-risk pregnancy clinics. The Diabetic Clinic is recognized for its innovations in patient care and research.

The Fetal Diagnostic Center, staffed by our Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialists and geneticists, offers detailed obstetric ultrasound evaluation and fetal assessment and treatment. The first of its kind in Northeast Ohio, the center offers the broadest range of fetal diagnostic testing, including chorionic villous sampling, amniocentesis, and fetal umbilical blood sampling.

The department's strong academic reputation stems directly from the commitment of its full-time faculty members to teaching. Subspecialties provide instruction in general and high-risk obstetrics, gynecology, oncology, urogynecology, ultrasound, endocrinology and infertility, and genetics.

The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) is an institutional resource in which clinical investigators can observe and study human physiology as well as study and treat disease with innovative approaches. The center conducts studies in which low and high-risk mothers and their infants participate. Members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology are involved in over twenty-two (22) active protocols, and have nine (9) NIH awards in excess of 1.5 million dollars.
