Trauma Burns and Critical Care
The Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burns at MetroHealth Medical Center operates the Trauma Center, Surgical Critical Care Units and the Comprehensive Burn Care Center. The hospital is verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, and the Comprehensive Burn Care Center is verified by the American Burn Association. The Trauma Center is one of the busiest in the nation, with nearly 3,000 admissions related to trauma per year. The 27-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit admits over 2,000 critically ill surgical patients per year. The Comprehensive Burn Care Center treats over 1,700 outpatient and inpatient burn injuries yearly.
The Division consists of physicians, nurse practitioners and nurse coordinators who specialize in the care of critically ill patients. All physicians are full-time faculty in the Department of Surgery, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and are heavily involved in the training of residents and medical students. A fellowship in surgical critical care / trauma is sponsored by the division as well as the trauma / burn research fellowship.
