Neurosurgery
Neurological Surgery is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of the entire nervous system, composed of the brain, spinal cord and column, as well as the nerves that travel throughout all parts of the body. Neurological surgery encompasses both adult and pediatric patients.
Neurosurgeons treat patients with a various conditions including:
- Brain tumors
- Cerebral aneurysms
- Brain and spinal cord injuries
- Brain hemorrhages
- Stroke
- Back and neck problems
- Hydrocephalus
- Disorders of the blood vessels that carry blood to the brain
- Treatment of facial pain
Neurological surgery at MetroHealth has 5 faculty members with special competence in trauma, complex spine, pediatric neurosurgery, tumors and procedures using the 'gamma knife'. The division of neurological surgery at MetroHealth includes residents from both the University Hospitals and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
