I am very proud of the patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach to disease management that is part of our departmental core mission.  We strive to achieve our organization-wide slogan:  "MetroHealth: Miracles & Hope."  As the only public hospital participating in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Project sponsored by the American College of Surgeons, we receive regular feedback about the results of our operations benchmarked to more than 200 of the nation's finest hospitals.  This quality improvement project has been demonstrated to reduce the rate of complications after operation.  It is part of our commitment to excellence and patient care. We provide care for injured patients in our verified Level 1 Trauma Center and Burn Center.  In addition, we serve as the major referral hospital and tertiary care center for western Cuyahoga County.

To our prospective residents:  The MetroHealth Department of Surgery is an integrated hospital for Case Western Reserve University Residency Programs in Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery, and Urology.  Our own postgraduate training programs in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Surgical Critical Care are fully accredited, highly competitive and nationally respected.  Residents from other programs send their residents to our department to learn from our expertise.

Medical students from Case Western University School of Medicine gain considerable experience in their clinical rotations in the Department of Surgery and are exposed to a group of outstanding teachers.
