Welcome to the Department of Surgery at MetroHealth Medical Center. The information provided is intended to be helpful to our patients, referring physicians, and those interested in our integrated residency programs with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. 

I am very proud of the patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach to disease management that is part of our departmental core mission. As a participant in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Project sponsored by the American College of Surgeons, we receive regular feedback about the results of our operations benchmarked to more than 200 of the nation's finest hospitals. This quality improvement project has been demonstrated to reduce the rate of complications after operation. It is part of our commitment to excellence and patient care. We provide care for injured patients in our verified Level 1 Trauma Center and Burn Center. In addition, we serve as the major referral hospital and tertiary care center for western Cuyahoga County.

For those of you referred to our surgeons for their expertise and knowledge, we do our utmost to treat all conditions from the most complicated to the most common, with the same commitment to your care. Your surgery will take place in our state-of-the-art operating rooms equipped with the latest, most advanced technology.

To our prospective residents: The MetroHealth Department of Surgery is an integrated hospital for Case Western Reserve University Residency Programs in Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Urology. Our own postgraduate training programs in Surgical Critical Care is fully accredited, highly competitive, and nationally respected. Residents from other programs send their residents to our department to learn from our expertise.

Medical students from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine gain considerable experience in their clinical rotations in the Department of Surgery and are exposed to a group of outstanding teachers.
