University of Akron Recognizes MetroHealth Nurse for Outstanding Contributions to Nursing Profession
The University of Akron (UA) recognized Katie Carney, RN, The MetroHealth System, and a 1998 UA graduate, with a UA 2013 School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award.
Katie was one of three alumni honored for “unselfish rendering of service over a period of years to their community, profession or vocation.”
“I am very grateful to be recognized by my alma mater in this way,” said Katie. “This award is confirmation that dedicated nurses are exceedingly important to our community’s health and wellbeing.”
A 24-year veteran of the The MetroHealth System, Katie launched her career as a staff nurse before becoming a nurse manager in adult critical care. Today, Katie is the Director of Nursing for 20 MetroHealth inpatient and community health center areas across the health system.
Katie is active in local and national nursing organizations including the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Northeast Ohio Nursing Initiative.
