Newly Remodeled Cancer Care Center Puts Emphasis On Patient Comfort
MetroHealth opened its newly remodeled Cancer Care Center before a crowd of more than 250 physicians, nurses, administrators and guests July 24.
It will offer a similar tour to the public Thursday, July 31, from 3-5 p.m.
The renovation created an airy, expanded waiting room with three distinct seating areas; a new infusion center expanded to 24 private rooms with TVs; space for a library and mini-café; and a soon-to-be-finished “Garden of Hope and Healing.” The $8 million project also included the installation of state-of-the-art technology: the Varian Trilogy
linear accelerator, a new CT Simulator with 3D imaging capability, a new Mosaiq planning system and a dedicated brachytherapy suite.
“I want to thank you for helping make our dreams a reality,” Akram Boutros
, MD, president and CEO of The MetroHealth System, told attendees on Thursday.
Alicia Miranda, a breast cancer survivor who received her treatment at MetroHealth, said, “I did have some tears, going through there, taking the tour…I’m so happy to see the improvement, because I can finally say that the look and feel of the environment match the quality of care.”
The medical and radiation oncology areas have been linked to integrate medical services between doctors and to allow patients to get all of their care at once. Three physicians have also joined the cancer care team: Drs. Debora Bruno
, Joanna Brell
and Larisa Schwartzman
“Cancer isn’t a one-person disease,” said Dr. Boutros. “MetroHealth, with its quality cancer care -- physicians, nurses, social workers and patient navigators -- treats the entire person, helping not only the patient but the family as well by giving them the support necessary.”
