Wednesday, May 28, 2014 - CWRU Medical Students Honor Dr. Jeremy Lipman with Teaching Award
Students from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine selected Jeremy Lipman, MD, to receive a Kaiser-Permanente Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Lipman was presented with the award during the School of Medicine’s commencement on May 18.

The award is presented to faculty members who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the education of medical students.

“I was deeply moved to be selected by the students to receive this award,” said Dr. Lipman, Director of Surgical Education at MetroHealth and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine.

Dr. Christopher Brandt, Chair of MetroHealth's Department of Surgery, attended the program.

“I was extremely proud to see this recognition of Dr. Lipman's efforts," Dr. Brandt said. "This is a tremendous honor, and from my standpoint, a recognition of the ongoing commitment the Department of Surgery and MetroHealth have to providing outstanding education for medical students.”

According to Dr. Brandt, criteria for the award include superior teaching ability, accessibility and willingness to help students, and the ability to serve as an exemplary role model.

“Dr. Lipman is the fourth member of the Department of Surgery to have received this award, and I believe this reflects the long-standing tradition of excellence in surgical education at MetroHealth," Dr. Brandt said.

In addition to Dr. Brandt, Dr. Lipman was joined by Alfred Connors, MD, Chief Medical Officer, during the ceremony.
