Dr. Boutros, MetroHealth Receive "Smart 50" Awards
President and CEO, Akram Boutros, MD, was named one of Northeast Ohio’s top leaders as a Smart 50 Awards honoree. In addition, Dr. Boutros and The MetroHealth System were recognized with a special award for community impact.
The Corporate College Smart 50 Awards, presented by Smart Business, recognizes the top executives of the 50 smartest companies in the region for their ability to effectively build and lead successful organizations.
The honorees were celebrated during the inaugural Smart 50 Awards event, held on May 22 at Corporate College East.
Dr. Boutros was honored for his innovative leadership since arriving last June. He led The MetroHealth System from a first quarter loss of $6.5 million in 2013 to an income of $18.9 million by the end of the year. He has supported staff efforts to create innovative programs that make a difference in improving the community’s overall health, including the development of the MetroHealth Medical Home for Children in Foster Care and MetroHealth Care Plus.
In addition to Dr. Boutros being named an honoree, both he and MetroHealth received one of only nine special recognition awards in the categories of Innovation, Impact and Sustainability (there was one each for small, medium and large organizations). MetroHealth, recognized in the Impact "large organization" category, was the only health care system to receive one of the special awards.
“Through innovation we are making an impact in the ways people can access care, treat their chronic conditions and seek better long-term health,” Dr. Boutros said. "It means a lot to me that Smart Business has recognized the impact MetroHealth is making in our community.”
