OBJECTIVE: Develop an understanding of radiologic anatomy and acquire a general knowledge of the contemporary practice of radiology and the role of radiology in patient care.
OFFERED: September - November & January - June
The elective begins on the 1st weekday of the month and will end on the last weekday of the month.
STUDENTS: Offered to 3rd and 4th Year Medical Students
Maximum of 2 students per month
DESCRIPTION: The student will participate in a representative sample of basic diagnostic situations. She/he will assist in the planning and interpretation of various radiologic investigations. Students will rotate throughout the month in several areas of the department including pediatric radiology, ultrasound, CT, neuroradiology, emergency department radiology and general inpatient and outpatient radiology. The student will compare gross and radiological anatomy with the intention of identifying those radiologic modifications produced by disease and gain familiarity with choice and selection of appropriate examinations and their expected accuracy.
REQUIREMENTS: Weekday attendance, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. One evening shift per week will be spent in the ED radiology suite.Attendance at daily radiology conferences and resident lectures, and the student will prepare two teaching file cases to be presented to staff at the conclusion of the elective.
